Software that gets the meaning

You have been hearing and reading about the Semantic Web for several years now. Not only human beings, but software agents should be able to read and generate web content. There is a lot of hype out there and there have been several reasons why industry and public research haven't met expectations.  There are several useful formalisms for expressing semantics like OWL, but very little implemented. There are millions of sites being tagged by humans, but software agents just grasp a tiny amount of that data.

People involved in the development of Semantic Web technology often have conflicting ideas about semantics. Some rush to develop "Semantic Web" technology without having a theory of meaning. Something similar has happened for many decades in the area of Artificial Intelligence: people set out to develop intelligent machines without a clear idea of what intelligence is. They ended up producing isolated ideas, some interesting gadgets and from time to time some advances.

Many people are not aware of the complexity of natural language and what is going on in our heads when we process language. And getting meaning is at the highest level of abstraction. We need to look at things in unconventional ways to get there.

Now and finally interesting developments are taking place.

Crossminder is working on technology that can identify meaning. Our software goes beyond the usual text analysis and gets into the semantics of documents.

Keep an eye on our products page. We are constantly improving the technology that helps you identify and manage the meaning of your documents or the documents of others, in your language or in theirs.

We work on creating software that

solves ambiguity in language

connects contents written in different languages and enables multilinguality based on semantic technology

lets machines understand documents

multilingual text mining
